Why I Started Shima Saba: Sustainable, Ethical Activewear for Women’s Health and Wellness

Shima Saba was born out of a personal realization. As I worked out and paid more attention to the clothing I was wearing, I noticed a gap in the market—there were very few options for clean, ethical activewear that truly cared for women’s health. When we exercise, our skin comes into direct contact with the materials we wear, especially in sensitive areas like the pelvic region. As someone with hormone imbalances and autoimmune conditions, I was particularly concerned about what was touching my skin and how that could affect my health.

While some brands offer organic cotton options, I never found one that felt truly 100% organic and stylish at the same time. I've always had an eye for trends, but I came to realize that chasing them wasn't always in the best interest of my well-being. Instead of simply looking for what's "on-trend," I wanted pieces that made me feel good, looked good, and most importantly, kept me healthy. That’s how Shima Saba came to life—a brand dedicated to offering comfort, style, and support without compromising on health.

True style is not just about what you wear, but how it makes you feel and how it cares for you.

I chose to focus on active loungewear because it’s a reflection of my lifestyle. I find myself in loungewear more often than not, especially outside of work or events, and it’s when I feel the most comfortable. But as we all know, the materials in activewear are often tight to the skin, and when we sweat during a workout, our pores open up. The problem is that many activewear brands use fabrics made from plastics and petroleum, which contribute toxins and chemicals into our bodies. As someone already navigating hormone imbalances and autoimmune conditions, the last thing I wanted was to add more chemicals into the mix.

That’s why it’s so important to me to spread awareness and help women on their health and wellness journeys. Shima Saba isn’t just about selling clothes; it’s about understanding the unique challenges many women face and providing clothing that truly supports their well-being. I want women to feel confident that they’re not just looking good, but that they’re also doing good for their health.

At Shima Saba, our values are rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, comfort, and wellness. I want to create pieces that help women feel comfortable in their bodies, confident in their skin, and empowered to look and feel beautiful, all while staying true to a healthy, mindful lifestyle.
