Why I Started Shima Saba: Sustainable, Ethical Activewear for Women’s Health and Wellness

Shima Saba was born from a deeply personal realization. As I became more intentional about my workouts and the clothing I wore, I noticed a serious gap in the market—there weren’t many options for clean, ethical activewear that genuinely prioritized women’s health. Our skin absorbs what it touches, especially in sensitive areas like the pelvic region, and for someone like me—who navigates hormone imbalances and autoimmune conditions—this was a major concern. The last thing I wanted was for my workout gear to introduce endocrine disruptors into my body.

I started searching for organic alternatives, but while some brands offered organic cotton options, none felt truly 100% organic and stylish at the same time. I’ve always loved fashion and followed trends, but I realized that constantly chasing what’s "in" wasn’t always in the best interest of my well-being. Instead, I wanted pieces that made me feel good, looked good, and—most importantly—protected my health. That’s how Shima Saba was born: a brand dedicated to providing comfort, style, and support without compromising on wellness.

I chose to focus on active loungewear because it reflects my lifestyle. Outside of work and events, I live in loungewear—it’s when I feel the most comfortable and at ease. But the reality is that most activewear is made with synthetic materials derived from plastics and petroleum. When we sweat, our pores open up, allowing our skin to absorb toxins from these fabrics. For women dealing with hormonal imbalances or autoimmune conditions, this creates an extra layer of health concerns.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.

That’s why spreading awareness is just as important to me as creating the clothes themselves. Shima Saba isn’t just another activewear brand; it’s about understanding the unique challenges women face and offering pieces that truly support their health and wellness. I want women to feel confident knowing that they’re not just dressing for style but also making a choice that benefits their well-being.

At Shima Saba, our values are rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, comfort, and wellness. My mission is to create clothing that makes women feel comfortable in their bodies, confident in their skin, and empowered to embrace a healthier, more mindful lifestyle—without sacrificing style
